I can not sleep. What are good ways to fall asleep without leaving my bed?
I have to get up early for school and I can not afford to keep falling asleep and waking up at 1:00-6:00. Is it possible to fall asleep fall faster, without pills and without leaving my bed? Advice would be greatly appreciated. Answer

Clock Seven Samurai. Great movie, but it will put you to sleep almost immediately when you see late at night.

I had the exact same problem, I used to sleep from 1am – 2am and get up at 6.30. The best solution is to read a book (until you cant hold your eyes open) and drink hot milk or something with hot milk in it. Do you excersice regularly? I used to do 2+ hours of physical excercise a day but it had little effect. I only sleep from exhaustion after 6+ hours of mountain biking! Oh, and make sure you are comfy!
Thats the (relativly) scientific answer but I also find thinking about things is good to get to sleep. Try imagining your perfect house/island, be creative! -

Find a good book. Exercising your eyes will make them tired…even if it keeps you up, at least you have been reading. Warm milk has also be a theory on getting to sleep earlier…If you have serious problems getting to sleep you may also may want to re-evaluate what you are consuming during the day-caffeine, esp.

Don’t drink pop, coffee…or eat anything sugary or to filling before you go to sleep. Sometimes herbal tea can help. Try doing something relaxing before you go to sleep to free your mind of worries and life in general, like read a book or comic book for 10 ish minutes. Don’t watch tv or go on the computer before you sleep but it’s okay to have the tv on low in the background if that helps. Just do what ever relaxes your body, and clams your mind. Reading a comic and drinking a hot herbal rea before the comic makes me pass out and I get panic attacks so it works pretty good lol.

I have alot of trouble falling asleep also. This may sound kind of dumb, but it really works for me. I have taken alot of yoga over the years and have learned how to deeply relax my body. How you do it, is that you basically talk to you self and tell each body part to relax and let go of any tension. You start with your feet and go all the way up- calves, knees, etc. Go slowly and really picture and feel each muscle releasing any tension. When you get up to your face, visualize the softening of your tongue, area between your eyes, etc. Then tell your self- say your name to yourself, ” “, you need to fall asleep. Say it calmly a few times….. it really does work. Also, if you can, take some yoga classes, b/c at the end of the classes, the yoga teacher usually will do this for you- and you’ll learn even more so. I hope this works. Oh also, take some deep slow breaths- in thru your nose and out thru your nose. Breathing into any tension……

I have trouble sleeping as well. Don’t drink any caffeine at night. Don’t take naps during the day. Some people say read, but that keeps me up rather than putting me to sleep because I like it. If you can’t turn your mind off, then think of something repetitive and unimportant. Also, pills aren’t a good way to go. Doctors put me on some before. I never liked them, nor did they work.

One method that i found on the net a few years ago was to get a jar with a lid and an onion. Cut up the onion and keep it in the jar next to your bed.
When your mind is working overtime and you realise that you cannot sleep, grab the jar, take the lid off and take in a big breath of the onion(through your nose if possible). It sounds pretty bad but that’s the way it works. The onion smell makes you cringe and blanks everything else out of your mind for quite a while and this will let you drift off to sleep 75% of the time.
Sometimes it takes a couple of whiffs of it but usually will work.

The most easiest and most quickest way to fall asleep is this; First of all if you have a TV or stereo on, shut them off. Keep the room dark and begin imagining relaxing things. Imagine yourself laying on a beach, nobody else around, and you can feel the warmth of the sunshine on you, and hear the water calmly coming ashore, and feel the moist breeze hitting against you so gently and that you are so relaxed. Also this one I use, and I fall to sleep in no time. Imagine yourself painting large, wide and somewhat tall letters or numbers using a paint brush and your favorite colors. Now with your eyes you follow that brush while it is applying the paint. Watch the brush and every movement, up, over, around, etc. When the painting is done with that one, go to another one until you go to sleep. I use either the letter S or F, and the numbers 8 or 3. Good luck to you sir.

I suffer from this as well!!
this is what works for me
go to bed with your window open if possible (close the curtain so its dark though)
read a book until you start doozing off, just keep reading something not to boring otherwise you will put it down and think to much about life.
wear minimal clothing to bed (you tend to warm up in your sleep)
take all your blankets off and get cold for a secound
the feeling of getting cosy again should make you more comfertable.reading works the best for me as well as lying on my stomach.
also the best advice I ever got was for two- three weeks go to bed at the same time and get out of bed at the same time everyday.
it gets your body into a routine you might be tired for the first few days or the opposite find yourself sitting in bed bored for ages but it really does help with training your body. -
