Ummmm it may sound absolutely corny but try knitting. the click click of the knitting needles is really comforting, especially if you use super soft yarn. and it makes you stuff when you get really good : ) and….. if knitting isnt the trick there are always doctor approved super soothing sleeping pills… : (

Cup of hot tea, or hot chocolate, or warm milk.
Turkey is said to do the trick.
Diphenhydramine is a common sleep aid, also the key ingredient in benadryl and many other allergy meds. You may have some laying around. 50 mg is the usual dosage.
A warm bath with all the trimmings will help…bubbles, candles, soft music. Any or all will calm and relax you.
Aromatherapists use lavender for relaxation.
You can do some stretches and some mind calming mental exercises.
Read something that is relatively uninspiring like a manual to an appliance or the dictionary.
Make a list of all the things that are worrying or bothering you, and things you need to remember to do. Sometimes in our heads we hang onto them because we think we will forget them. If you must hang on to your worries, you may as well pick up where you left off yesterday…and writing them down may help you to relax your mind.
Do some deep breathing exercises. Inhale quickly, exhale slowly.
Sweet dreams.

You can get valerian root at any health food store. Make sure you get the capsules though, the tea is disgusting, I don’t care how much honey or sugar you put in it. But… valerian DOES work.
If you are over 30, you could try melatonin. As you age, your body makes less and less of it which is why it gets harder to sleep as you age.
Good Luck,
