Well, the treatments with the least side effects would be getting counseling, and using a light box if your depression is partly seasonal (winter blues). I’m going to give you my depression tips too – there are behavioral things you can do to feel better.
For a lot of people, counseling isn’t enough – they just have inherited a nasty mental disorder. For those folks, they need meds. You have to find the meds that help you & that is hard, because people’s genetics vary very much. You can maybe cut down on some of the experimentation if you talk to other family members & see what did & did not work for them – that’s useful info for the doctor. Also, see a psychiatrist & not a GP – research I recently read shows that psychiatrists treat depression FAR more effectively than regular docs. Then of the drugs that help you, you have to pick one that you can stand the side effects.

Go to a psychiatrist and ask. Everybodys different and they may have to try different meds on you until you find whats right. Paxil sux though!!! The sexual side effects alone will CAUSE depression. No ability to orgasm on that crap…. horrible. I’m on xanax short term for anxiety/ panic attacks but it’s only temporary and i”m thinking i need to stop taking it. It can be addictive. hope you find the help that is best for you!

From my experience, your doctor will probably suggest some type of medication for anxiety and depression. Most often, they’ll prescribe something like antidepressants. That’s because antidepressant medication does the same for panic attacks as it does for depression in that it reduces the level of stress you experience and relaxes you more.
For people having panic attacks as well as suffering from depression one of the tried and tested drugs are SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) although they are becoming less popular.
These include: Celexa, Lexapro, Luvox, Luvox, CR Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft.Stronger medication that may help more but come with more side effects are benzodiazepines.
The brand list here is longer: Ativan, Dalmane, Klonopin, Halcion, Librium, Restoril, Serax, Tranxene, Valium and Xanax – which seems to be the favourite at the momentThese slow down the central nervous system reducing your stress levels and alleviating the anxious feelings we get that so often lead to a panic attack. But as I said these are very strong and most doctors would only prescribe it after thorough diagnosis.
However, the drugs will only help with the symptoms, they won’t help deal with the cause. There are alternatives to meds, such as therapy or counselling and you may want to try one of these. One of the best ones I know about has help lots of people and the great advantage of having no side effects and works very quickly.
The guy who developed this treatment had had panic attacks for over thirty years. After trying everything else, he eventually put together every thing he had learnt and came up with something that really worked. You can find more details here. http://tinyurl.com/7muzrw
From experience, I know it will help. What ever you do make sure you look after yourself!

I used the Panic Away method. I didn’t want to use medication and this seemed like the best option for me. You can read more about it on my blog if you want.

Well the best thing for anxiety and depression is to talk long and hard about it with someone who understands. But if you’re talking meds then I would recommend Celexa generic brand is called Citalopram. They have the least side effects and are a lot less addictive than other brands. Celexa is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Which means that it helps your brain produce more serotonin which is the natural chemical that makes you feel good/happy.
Be sure to go see your doctor though just to make sure that it would be a good choice for you.
Good luck & stay strong!
