Question : How do you differentiate between negative symptoms of schizophrenia and depression?
Is it possible for someone who has been suffering long term from depression (17 years) to be actually suffering from negative symptoms of schizophrenia?
The person concerned does not have hallucinations, visual or auditor . Has never had them.

You’re talking about depression lasting 17 years so I’m guessing that the person would have to be about 30. Most schizophrenics show symptoms in their late teens or early 20′s. The symptoms of the disease are hallucinations of some sort.
Some schizophrenics complain of feeling flat. The technobabble name for that is “negative affect” and it is harder to treat than depression.
