Los Angeles Free JFS program helps provide new beat baby blues “and postpartum depression

Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles (JFS introduced) “New Moms Connect”, a program to help young mothers struggling with postpartum depression or its milder variant “baby blues”. JFS / New Moms Connect is a free, volunteer-based, which provides support services for mothers and their extended families in Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley.
50% or more of new mothers experience “baby blues” that can last up to three weeks. Postpartum Depression (PPD), a condition that lasts longer and is of sadness, anxiety, loneliness, and characterized the inability to cope with the new child affects 10-20% of young mothers. Early intervention, education and support to prevent key is that these conditions for the children and family life difficult, confusing and painful. JFS / New Moms Connect provides a safe place for mothers, fathers and other family members to talk about these confusing feelings and get help.

JFS / New Moms Connect volunteers bring impressive, professional and life experience, her work with mothers and their families. In addition to a group of volunteers experienced paraprofessional staff includes a specialist in lactation, a doula (help post-partum), a dentist and a nurse. All volunteers have been trained in postpartum disorders and clinical intervention skills by Vivien Burt, MD, founder of the Women’s Life Center at UCLA and postnatal care and specialist women’s health.
Tamar Springer, a licensed psychotherapist, supervises all volunteer program. She is an educator with 15 years experience in all areas of marriage, family and parenting, with particular focus on the postpartum depression.
